Counseling, Outreach, and Enrichment
Counseling
KIPP to College provides advocacy and support for KIPP NYC alumni in a range of ways to help enable them to succeed in school and in the competitive world beyond.
KTC’s counseling staff offer individual counseling as well as group and family sessions to help alumni find constructive ways to respond to emotional and social issues. Like parents to their own children, KTC also provides constant vigilance and support as alumni face challenges posed by sex, drugs, crime, poverty, and complacency.
The counseling team also aims to proactively address many social, emotional, and health issues faced by our alumni through a focus on wellness and prevention. KTC’s counseling team offers workshops for parents, creates relevant guidebooks for alumni and their families, and brings in guest speakers. KTC’s counselors also build partnerships with external organizations to provide deeper support to alumni.
Outreach and Enrichment Activities
Enrichment activities provide KIPP NYC alumni with opportunities for productive, enjoyable, and broadening experiences and serve as an important outreach tool for fostering relationships among alumni and with KTC staff. Activities include field trips to parks and cultural events in the New York City area. KTC also hosts special annual events including a summer barbecue, a Thanksgiving dinner, an ice skating party, and a senior dinner. Activities typically run from 5 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, on Saturdays, and during school vacations.
In addition to hosting enrichment activities of broad interest, the counseling and outreach team also reaches out to individual alumni and their families and schools to uncover alumni needs, connect alumni with the support they need, build relationships with alumni, and foster their sense of connection with the KIPP NYC community.
