High School

KIPP to College plays a vital role in supporting our alumni in the high school placement process and throughout high school, so that they can build upon their KIPP NYC middle school education and continue to develop the academic and character skills they need to succeed in school and in the competitive world beyond.

KIPP NYC High School

The KIPP NYC High School will open in 2009 to provide a high-quality college-preparatory option to the more than 260 students who will complete KIPP NYC middle schools each year. Plans for both the curriculum and the physical space are already underway, and we are actively recruiting teachers and other school staff. Like KIPP NYC middle schools, the KIPP NYC High School will be characterized by quality teaching and learning, an unrelenting focus on results, and attention to both character development and academics.

Because we are committed to promoting choice and meeting each child’s academic and personal needs, we will continue to offer a high school placement and support program even after the KIPP NYC high school opens. We anticipate that approximately 25% of KIPP NYC 8th graders will choose to enroll in private and parochial schools.

High School Placement

Since our first class matriculated to high school in 1999, KIPP NYC alumni have enrolled at some of the finest schools in the nation. As a result of KIPP NYC alumni’s track record of academic achievement, leadership, and character, KTC has developed strong relationships with public, private, and parochial schools in New York City, as well as boarding schools and A Better Chance community school programs throughout the East Coast. Through KTC, KIPP NYC 7th and 8th graders and their parents learn about a broad range of college-preparatory high school options. KTC helps them to identify and earn admission and scholarships to the best school for each student.

KIPP to College’s commitment to alumni continues while they are in high school. Read about the academic and personal support KTC provides.
